Description

Sumatriptan + Naproxen (Fixed-Dose Combination)

Drug Class: Triptan + NSAID

Purpose: Acute treatment of migraine attacks

Components & Mechanism

Clinical Advantages

Indications

  • Acute migraine attacks (with or without aura)
  • Patients with recurrence after triptan monotherapy

Dosage (Adults)

  • Typical tablet: Sumatriptan 85 mg + Naproxen 500 mg
  • Administration: Take at onset of migraine
  • Max: 2 tablets in 24 hrs (?2 hrs apart)
  • Not for prophylaxis (preventive use)

Contraindications

  • Cardiovascular disease (IHD, stroke, uncontrolled hypertension)
  • Peptic ulcer disease / GI bleeding
  • NSAID hypersensitivity or aspirin-induced asthma
  • Severe liver or kidney impairment
  • Pregnancy & lactation (use caution)

Clinical Note: Especially useful in patients with migraines that recur within 24 hrs of triptan use, since naproxen prolongs effect.
