Description:

Esmelira contains Escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat
depression, anxiety disorders, and related mood disturbances. It works by increasing the levels
of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain that helps improve mood, emotional balance, and
sleep quality.

Esmelira is indicated for:
• Major depressive disorder (MDD)
• Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
• Panic disorder
• Social anxiety disorder

Adverse Effects

Major Side Effects (Seek immediate medical attention if any of these occur):
• Suicidal thoughts or behavior, especially in young adults
• Serotonin syndrome (agitation, hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, fever, muscle stiffness)
• Severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing)
• Seizures (rare)
• Irregular heartbeat or QT prolongation (especially with electrolyte imbalance)
• Persistent bleeding or easy bruising (due to platelet inhibition)

Minor Side Effects (Usually mild and self-limiting):
• Nausea or upset stomach
• Headache
• Drowsiness or insomnia
• Dry mouth
• Increased sweating
• Dizziness or fatigue
• Decreased libido or sexual dysfunction
• Weight changes (usually mild)

Precautions:
